If you see someone else in danger
When many people see something happen, everyone easily thinks that someone else will act. You can be the one who does, without putting yourself at risk.
Your safety first
You do not have to be a hero. Never step in physically if it puts you in danger. Often the most important thing you can do is to call for help and stay nearby.
Call 112
Do not assume that someone else has already called. Say where you are, what is happening and how many people are involved.
Get others involved
Point to a specific person and ask for help, for example "You in the blue jacket, please call 112". It is easier to act together.
Calm the situation down
Talk to the person who is being harassed, not to the attacker. A simple question, such as asking for directions, can break the situation and give the person a way out.
Stay with the person
When the danger is over, stay with the person until help arrives. Give first aid if you know how, and tell the police what you saw.
If you are a bear in SayNear
Answer “I'm coming” only if you can actually go. Call 112 and stay calm. Being there and being seen often makes a big difference. A bear never uses violence.
